PRE-SEASON EVENT: MOUNTAIN BIKING 101
Date: Saturday June 7, 2014
Time: 9:00am - noon
Location: Creek Valley Elementary School
Address: 6401 Gleason Road Edina, MN 55439 (Just south of Crosstown 62 and Gleason Road)
Description: Our first pre-season event will be conducted by Bruce Martens of the MN High School Mountain Bike League. We will get together with the Edina High School Mountain Bike Club, and Bruce will be teaching basic mountain bike skills. These are skills that will make athletes safer, faster, and more comfortable on the bike. We will spend the remainder of the year perfecting the skills that we learn in this seminar, so it would be very beneficial for the kids to hear the instruction directly. Additionally, we will be gathering sizing information for the Jerseys and Shorts that you’ve already paid for. We will place an order next week. So, come and join us! Bring your bike, your questions, and whatever gear you have, and we’ll get our year started with a fun event with the Edina team!
PRE-SEASON EVENT: THEODORE WIRTH SPUR
Date: Saturday June 14, 2014
Time: 9:00am – noon
Location: Wirth Lake Beach - Parking Lot
Address: 3300 Glenwood Avenue Minneapolis, MN 55422
Description: Our second pre-season event will be held in the Parking lot / grassy areas of Theodore Wirth Beach House. We’ll meet in the parking lot, and review some of the skills we learned the previous week. Then we will ride the very short distance to the Theodore Wirth Spur, which is a short, fun loop where the kids can practice their skills. This off road trail is open, smooth, and much like a roller coaster. Kids new to mountain biking will love it. Well, it's fun for everyone. Check out the second video on our "Videos" page for a preview of the ride.
PRE-SEASON EVENT: FUN RIDE ON THE LUCE LINE
Date: Saturday June 21, 2014
Time: 9:00am - noon
Location: Armstrong High School (Front Door)
Address: 10635 36th Ave N, Plymouth, MN 55441
Description: This will be a fun ride, at an easy pace, but it will also be a longer ride, possibly reaching 30 miles, or more. We will ride out the Luce Line Bike Trail. The trail is paved for the first few miles, then turns to crushed limestone. In general, the club will spend a lot of time riding in a group, as we travel from Armstrong to the trails at Theodore Wirth Park. We will take this pre-season opportunity to teach the kids group riding skills, and how to be respectful of others on the bike trails. Knowing how to cross a road, stop, turn, pass other cyclists, and avoid potholes is much more complicated when you are riding in a close group, but there are conventions that cyclists use to keep each other safe. Practicing them early in the season will help keep us safe throughout the season.
PRE-SEASON EVENT: FUN RIDE TO THEODORE WIRTH
Date: June 25, 2014 - Fun Ride
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: Armstrong High School (Front Door)
Address: 10635 36th Ave N, Plymouth, MN 55441
Description: Our final pre-season event will be a ride from Armstrong to the trails at Theodore Wirth Parkway. We will do 1 or 2 laps at Theo, then return to Armstrong. This will allow us to practice everything we have learned in pre-season, including group riding skills, bike handling skills, and work to build our endurance. This is intended to be a fun & easy pace with lots of conversation.
